Regional News

 Director’s Welcome.

Marsha PicGreetings from the NAMME Northeast Region!

Our membership is comprised of educators in the healthcare arena from the New England states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont; the Mid-Atlantic states of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, DC in addition to Puerto Rico, Antigua and the Virgin Islands.

Some of our objectives include advocating for increased governmental funding for educational programs, professional development opportunities for our members, as well as resources and recruitment fairs for colleges/universities and high school students. The latter is accomplished via academic enrichment and career development.

I eagerly welcome your involvement embracing diversity and inclusion while recognizing the value in individual differences. I encourage you to take part in our initiatives by becoming a member, mentor and colleague.

Northeast Regional Event – “Cocktails & Collegiality”

NAMME NE expanded its highly successful “Cocktails & Collegiality” event and launched a new “NAMME NE Lecture Series and Networking Event”.  The event was hosted by The City College of New York’s Program in Premedical Studies and was held on October 14, 2015.

We welcomed Dwayne Seymour, Ph.D., Vice President of Health Services at City Care and his lecture focused on:  “Barriers Facing Black Men”, with an emphasis on the troubles in foster care and other social programs. Preceding Dr. Seymour’s lecture was an opportunity for colleagues to network over wine.  A delightful dinner was served during the lecture.  25+ individuals representing medical schools, programs, the NYC Department of Education and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene were in attendance.  The event closed with an opportunity for individuals to learn more about NAMME NE and membership.  Photos are attached.  We hope to make this a bi-annual event.
